Removal of Mn(II) from Acidic Wastewater on the Red Mud– Loess Mixture: Fixed–Bed Column Tests

Abstract In this study, the purification effect of red mud–loess mixture (RM–L) as a reactive medium in permeable barrier (PRB) for groundwater contaminated by acidic wastewater (AW) containing Mn(II) was explored considering removal capacity and pH value, safety on RM–L after evaluated. The breakthrough parameters were determined purifying performances toward AW evaluated fixed-bed column tests at various initial concentrations Mn(II), flow rates, packing heights. speciation loaded Tessier method. Results show with 17.30 mg·g −1 100 mg·L concentration, 1 mL·min rate 7 cm height. reduction concentration increase height improve total percentage RM–L. Moreover, has long-term effective acid buffer ensuring values effluent could be maintained neutral value. Furthermore, stable forms that are dominated iron-manganese oxidate form.
